ARTIST’S BIO ANDREA DEMMIN TASEVSKI Andrea Demmin Tasevski has been an artist in various media since early childhood. She often thinks of the Bible verse "Neglect not the gift that is within you..." (1 Timothy 4:14), and strives to use her artistic gift to share the beauty of the world with others. She graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo with a BFA in Art History. While in college she spent a semester studying abroad in Siena, Italy, a town in Tuscany with a rich history in medieval art and architecture. This European experience is a source of inspiration to her to this day. After graduation Andrea studied for many years with artist George Palmer. Mr. Palmer is a highly respected portrait artist in Western New York who is particularly well known for his prominently displayed paintings in historic Shea's Theater. She has also studied with well-known Buffalo watercolor artist Margaret M. Martin, and credits the late artist as one of the reasons for her love of the watercolor medium. Groups that Andrea is a member of include the Buffalo Society of Artists, Fine Arts League of Buffalo, the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, where she is a signature member, and the Pastel Society of Western New York. In the Summer of 2006 she had a watercolor still life accepted into the prestigious Adirondack Exhibition of American Watercolors, and in the summer of 2016 Andrea had two pastel paintings accepted into the 2nd Annual Adirondack National Pastel Exhibition. She received 2nd place at the Fine Arts League of Buffalo's 62nd Annual Spring Exhibition, held at the Keenan Center in Lockport, NY, for a pastel portrait of a young boy entitled “Will”, and the Special Award sponsored by the Allentown Village Society for the pastel "Stormy Sky" at the Fine Arts League of Buffalo's 63rd Annual Fall Exhibition. In April 2017 her pastel painting “Rose of Sharon” won 3rd place at the Fine Arts League of Buffalo’s 64th Annual Spring Exhibition, and in June 2017 her pastel portrait “Renée” was shown at the International Association of Pastel Societies 30th Juried Exhibition in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most recently her pastel painting “Rose of Sharon” was selected to receive the Dave Francis Studio Award for Outstanding Still Life and her pastel painting “Renée" was selected to receive the Terry Ludwig Pastel Award at the 3rd Annual Adirondack National Pastel Exhibition. Her creative process varies; at times she works from her own photographic references, while she also enjoys working directly from her subject. Seeking to capture the beauty of a person, place or thing, Andrea loves experimenting with different color combinations. Most recently she has been drawn to pastel painting, whether it be a portrait, landscape or still-life. Subject matters that interest her differ, but she is invariably intrigued by the way light plays on surfaces. She longs to capture the colors and the lightness and darkness that she sees; Andrea wants to share her artistic 'vision' and is passionate about painting, deriving much joy from sharing that passion with others.
