I make Art because it is my passion! Art is my way of taking in all that I experience in the natural world and communicating my thoughts, emotions, and sensations. I love the challenge of pulling together colors, shapes, lines into a successful composition that will inspire others to the same joy or questions that I have about the world. At times my subject matter is my emotional experience translated into color, shape, line. Art can exist in isolation, but it is through sharing that it achieves its best purpose. Originally focusing of weaving and fiber arts, I have been exploring combining those techniques with the beauty of watercolor painting. The nature of watercolor paint speaks to my love of light and color; that beautiful mix of unending subtle colorations that I love is a gift from the medium. Currently, I continue to explore themes in nature as I did as a weaver, but the visual impact from the beauty of the watercolor paints has led me to explore how light and color play so beautifully when I physically manipulate the paper. I love the fact that the tactile nature of weaving can add to the viewer’s visual experience.
My art is an exploration of color, light, pattern etc. – all the elements of design. Playing with and exploring them, within the context of the representational world or abstract design, is my joy. Art making is a challenge that makes me happy to wake up every day.
