BSA Studio Visits are Back!

The first summer BSA Open Studio visit after our required COVID break was held at Sally Treanor’s home studio on Saturday, June 3rd. Sally provided an overview of the build-out of the space from unheated/uncooled attic to a modern, up-to-date, purpose-built work space. Visitors saw slide-in painting storage and shelving for acid-free boxes and teaching materials. A flat file provides a framing station. The area is super-insulated with a Mitsubishi unit providing heating and cooling. Finally, color corrected, full-spectrum lighting was chosen over skylights and the whole space was rewired. Gerald Mead Presents Lecture at Garret Club

Gerald Mead presented a lecture “A Passion for Collecting Art” at the Garret Club in Buffalo on February 9 (coordinated by Catherine Tillou) and at Canterbury Woods Gates Circle on March 8. He also juried the entries for the upcoming American Craftsman Artisan Festival at the Kenan Center and judged the West Seneca School District Annual Student Exhibition.

Brian Porter Commissioned to Create Bronze Santa Sculpture

Brian Porter was commissioned to create the Charles W. Howard Santa Sculpture by The Albion Betterment Committee of Albion, New York. Charles W. Howard (1896-1966) was an American actor, teacher and founder of the first Santa Claus School, Albion, NY 1937. He was the Macy’s parade Santa Claus for 18 years, from 1948-1965. The unveiling ceremony took place Saturday June 10th, 2023 in downtown Albion, New York, after the town annual Strawberry Festival parade. Press coverage was published in the “Orleans Hub.”

Michelle Marcotte Organizing River Region Art Walk 2023

Michelle Marcotte is organizing the River Region Studio Tour and Art Walk on July 23, in Lewiston and Youngstown region. Seven artists will show their work in their homes, studios, driveways and where they paint. Artists offer hospitality and a chance to talk about their work with direct from artist sales of original art, prints, cards and books. Start anywhere; all artists will have maps. Nancy Mariani’s Pastels Shown in Two Venues

Nancy Mariani’s Sedona Blues was accepted into the 9th Annual Adirondack National Pastel Exhibition at the LARAC Mountain Gallery in Glens Falls NY. The exhibition will be on view from July 7th to August 9th. Nancy was also accepted into The Pastel Society of Western New York exhibition at The Kenan Art Center juried by BSA Exhibiting Member Judy Hodge. And Nancy will be represented by River Art Gallery in Tonawanda, NY.

Barbara Hart’s Painting Included in Burchfield Gala

Barbara Hart contributed her painting, Wallflower, to the Burchfield Penny’s annual gala fundraising auction scheduled for the evening of June 17. Auction works were on view in the BP’s main gallery from June 7 to 17. On May 6, Barbara participated in the Raft of Sanity’s activity “Drawing with Felice Koenig” in conjunction Koenig’s solo exhibit “Enough Love for Everyone” which runs through June 24 at the Raft.
