Kathleen McDonnell’s pastel painting “Summer Garden” was juried into the PastelSociety of America’s 37th Annual Open juried Exhibition for “Pastels Only”. TheExhibition was held at the National Arts Club Grand Gallery, New York, New York,from September 8th through September 27th. Kathleen’s pastel painting “Autumn Journey #4” was accepted into the ConnecticutPastel Society’s 16th Annual National Exhibition, “Renaissance in Pastels”. andreceived the Pastel Society of America Award. The Exhibition was held at theMattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut from October 2nd through October 25th.

Carol Townsend’s invitational two-person exhibition entitled “From the Diaries” closed September 6th at the Liptov Gallery of the Peter Michal Bohun Museum of Art, Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. This exhibition space dates back to the 1450’s. Featured were works by Julia Sabova, head of the Departments of Textile and Fashion Design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and by Carol who was the chair of the Design Department at Buffalo State at the time of the invitation. Carol presented nearly thirty collages and ceramic works. She was also asked to read several of her poems which were then translated and read in the Slovack language. Wolfe’s ‘Dimensional Transitions,’ an exhibition exploring the dichotomies reflected in art and life experiences will be on view at the Carnegie Art Center from Thursday, September 17 to October 31, 2009. The opening reception is Thursday, September 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Gary L. Wolfe’s work addresses the fundamental vulnerability of the contemporary human condition, often combining his skill as a painter with other media (collage, assemblage, fine woodworking, stained glass and video) to create, multi-dimensional objects that transition between actual and perceived presence of the work’s subject and objects. Pastel Perfect: A Survey of Western New York Pastel Artists

The pastel work of BSA members: Priscilla Bowen, George Grace, Kathleen McDonnell, Todd Overturf, and George Palmer, will be on exhibit and open this Friday at the Kenan Center. Priscilla Bowen and Gary L. Wolfe have collaborated to create a piece of original artwork for the ERIE (Ecosystem Restoration through Interdisciplinary Exchange) project which will be on exhibition during an artists reception to be held at the UB Center for the Arts on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 5 to 7 pm.. ERIE is a new interdisciplinary doctoral education, research and training program to advance ecosystem science, engineering and policy while contributing to the ecological recovery of the Great Lakes and Western New York. The project involves the collaboration of multiple University of Buffalo Departments including Civil (Environmental) Engineering.
