Beth Pedersen, winner of this year’s Spark Award for Unsung Hero, has practiced art for decades. Beth’s work explores nature and pertinent environmental issues through a variety of materials and mediums, from oil painting to print-making, which she expresses through both abstraction and representation. She has exhibited extensively regionally, nationally, and internationally. Once a realist painter, New York City’s art world and the ripple effect at SUNY New Paltz College had a powerful influence on her work. She studied with Ilya Bolotowsky and George Wardlaw and quickly turned “ab-ex.” During the 1970s, when Beth was raising a family, she focused on watercolor, pastel, and pencil drawings. Wolfe’s ‘Dimensional Transitions,’ an exhibition exploring the dichotomies reflected in art and life experiences will be on view at the Carnegie Art Center from Thursday, September 17 to October 31, 2009. The opening reception is Thursday, September 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Gary L. Wolfe’s work addresses the fundamental vulnerability of the contemporary human condition, often combining his skill as a painter with other media (collage, assemblage, fine woodworking, stained glass and video) to create, multi-dimensional objects that transition between actual and perceived presence of the work’s subject and objects. Frani Evedon’s ‘Garden’ awarded Grand Prize from CEPA
Joe Whalen is showing a collection of 50 water colors and acrylics at the Roz Steiner Art Gallery at SUNY Genesee Community College from November 10- January 6. “From landscapes to pool halls, Whalen creates visual narratives in a style that recalls early 20th century realism.” A gallery reception will be held November 17th at 1:00 pm.
