From the Journal:
“I can almost hear the quiet,” says Terri Ford, Landscape & Interior category juror, of Kathleen McDonnell’s painting, Silence No. 2. McDonnell could “hear the quiet” too, when she came upon the scene that inspired her Ruth Richeson Pastel Gold Award-winning pastel. She was walking up a hill behind her home in Glenwood. N.Y., on a foggy winter morning. “Up on top you could hardly see the trees,” she says. “The mood was extremely intense. It was like the sky was coming down and touching me. I wanted to get that same type of feeling in my painting.”
