Heather Lynn Harris, artist, author and illustrator, was selected by the toy company PlayMonster to illustrate a series of 6 picture books that translate the characters and world of their newest toy line into books. The books, for children ages 1-5, are combined with a toy — a glow-in-the-dark bug — that focuses on teaching social and emotional lessons. The first 3 books launched Nov. 1 and are sold online at Amazon. The remaining 3 books will launch spring 2023.
Michael McMahon is exhibiting at the Keenan Center in a show called Three Brushes, February 12 through March 11. The exhibit, featuring three noted Lockport area painters, opens with a free public reception on Sunday, February 12 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Kenan Center House Gallery at 433 Locust Street, Lockport. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, noon-5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Manning McCandlish and Shirley Murdoch are also part of the exhibition.
Four different large scale wall murals of photographs by Dennis Stierer have been permanently installed in the newly opened Catholic Health Lockport Hospital. Each of the murals are around 9 feet high and 15 feet long. The above image is in the MRI room. Others are in the CT Scan room, and two others in the Office area.
Rose Popper has created a form of the body of Christ for this year’s Lenten project at St. Joseph University Parish, located at 3269 Main Street, Buffalo. Each week, the parishioners are asked to help complete the body of Christ by writing on a flesh-colored strip of paper what they did during that week to celebrate Lent.
Carol Townsend’s invitational two-person exhibition entitled “From the Diaries” closed September 6th at the Liptov Gallery of the Peter Michal Bohun Museum of Art, Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. This exhibition space dates back to the 1450’s. Featured were works by Julia Sabova, head of the Departments of Textile and Fashion Design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and by Carol who was the chair of the Design Department at Buffalo State at the time of the invitation. Carol presented nearly thirty collages and ceramic works. She was also asked to read several of her poems which were then translated and read in the Slovack language.
