Congratulations are in order for BSA member Peter Olonade who the Ujima Company has named its inaugural Lorna C. Hill Artist Development Fellow!

Peter is one of the resident artists at the The Hunt Art Gallery which features his work and other resident artists. See their work in ‘Rooted and Released’ opening Thursday, August 18.

Peter graduated from Buffalo State with a B.A. in fashion. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY until the age of 11, he went on to study abroad in Lagos, Nigeria for five years.

Peter’s craft is called Tufting and it is the process of punching a needle through backing material in the form of a loop or cut pile to create fascinating and beautiful pieces of art. The technique has been known for years and is is also known as rug hooking or needle punching.
