First and foremost, a heartfelt congratulations to the top three award winners in our Spring Show at Project308 Gallery, in order, first to third: Joan Shaw, Michele Agosto, and Norma Joy. Likewise, I applaud those who didn’t win, but who were accepted into the exhibition, and my condolences to those who were not. I say that, of course, tongue-in-cheek, because yours truly fell into that latter category. Such is life. Somehow, the exhibition managed to be very good despite the absence of my artwork. Just in case any of you who don’t know me very well think I’m seriously wallowing in my sorrows over the rejection (sniffle), as we all know, far better artists than any of us have faced similar results from simply trying…
I begin this message with sad news: we recently lost two longtime BSA members: Kaaren Metcalf and Eddie Bisone. Kaaren Metcal: known for her tender and very well-executed portraits, largely of her family, succumbed to complications of chemotherapy. She was ever dedicating herself to the betterment of her talents, and in one particular George Palmer workshop, she did an absolutely superb pastel portrait of my wife, Donna, which she graciously sent to us several months later. I was delighted to award her a Best of Show in the most recent Williamsville Art Society exhibition, a work clearly worth the recognition. Eddie Bisone: for those of us who knew him from when he hung out at Art Dialogue, greeting people, what more needs be said? This…
September, 2011 BSA Newsletter (PDF) There is never a dull moment on the Buffalo Society of Artist’s frontline. We, the board, are still marching to the beat of 120 years of history in the making. September marks our “Eye Candy” Fundraiser, a first for BSA, which takes place on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Vern Stein’s Art Gallery in Williamsville. We are expecting a crowd and have about 85 artworks to display in a very impressive lineup. I have seen them all and there are many very beautiful small gems that will be placed for auction. You must tell your family, friends and art aficionados about an art party they should not miss. No dancing girls, but we will have…
March 2010 BSA Newsletter (PDF) That Vision Thing There’s been an interesting debate floating around within our ranks of late. It goes loosely like this: what should the BSA be? There is a faction, of indeterminate size, which says, look, the seminar, the Video Archive Project, the studio visits—all that’s fine, but unnecessary. Just give us our two exhibitions per year, plus Artpark, plus the annual dinner, and be done with it. Indeed, if that were all that was required, our board meetings would be one hour, punch out, go home. On the other side–and I count myself as among the proponents – is the argument that with our long rich history, we have to be more! More than a self-congratulatory organization of artists –…

The year moves forward in its usual quick pace and, true to form, the BSA moves right along with it! BSA began 2018 with an exhibition which included new educational events. The Board, the Transition team, Education and Exhibitions Committees are developing several plans for this year so that we can gather with our friends and share our visions and ideas. Events and their dates, times, and venues will be listed on the website, in the newsletter and through e-flashes. Winter Exhibition The Winter Exhibitionin January proved to be another example of the wonderful work of BSA membership. We thank Tim Brooks for organizing this successful exhibition. Juried by Dr. Anthony Bannon, former director of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, the exhibition spotlighted a variety of…
