September 2010 President’s Message
September 2010 BSA Newsletter (PDF) This being my last President’s message, I want extend my thanks to all of the Board members and volunteers I worked with to meet the incredible challenges and changes that we faced the past few years—not only the website-development, but also a reorganization of the BSA into five major components: Exhibitions, Artpark, Membership, Programming, and Communications–the stark reality being we simply could not operate any longer in the simpler, 20th century mode if we hoped to survive and flourish. The past few years we have shown ourselves to be nothing if not adaptive. Organizations that get complacent die. Over my two terms, we reined in our budget, identifying problem areas and working out cost-cutting solutions; raised thousands of dollars through…
August, 2013 – Richard W. Christian II, President
With the end of summer and another successful completion of the Open Members’ Show at the Carnegie Art Center drawing near, we look forward to our juried Catalog Exhibition, Frank Lloyd Wright Fontana Boathouse Art Show and Auction, City of Night and jurying of prospective new members in the fall. The current uploading of images for entry into the 2013 Catalogue Exhibition at the Kenan Center has been vigorous and promises to give the exhibition’s Juror, George Afedzi Hughes, Associate Professor of Visual Studies at UB, a great deal of extraordinary work to consider. I would ask our membership to likewise consider becoming Patrons for our exhibition themselves and to ask others to do so if they might be so inclined. The importance of funding…

January 2010 BSA Newsletter (PDF) In the last few years, as most of you know, we have expanded our reach and operations in our quest to make ourselves more relevant—both to our members as well as to the Western New York arts community. It has been no cakewalk on either front, requiring as it does, dedication to the value of art generally, and to the value of the art produced by our members specifically. This takes hard work and commitment. That having been said, I want to welcome the two new Board members, Richard Christian and Gary Wolfe. Richard graciously submitted his name for Recording Secretary and the Board elected him. Gary, our former president, has stepped up to the plate to fill a huge…
September, 2017 – Cindi O’Mara, President
Doesn’t it seem that summer just began? As summer slips into fall, BSA is growing into its non-profit organization status. Many changes already have been implemented, while others are being planned and modified to adjust to this new position. Not only has the BSA Transition Team been actively working hard to bring us to this new level as an organization, many activities have been planned to provide our members with exciting new opportunities. It is an exciting time for us. After BSA was formally notified regarding our new status, the board organized a Transition Team. The team is currently reviewing the many organizational modifications that are required. Over the coming months, there will be both obvious changes and several subtle changes. An example of an…

February, 2013 – Richard W. Christian II, President
Since first joining the BSA five years ago and then coming onto the Board of Directors over three years ago, I have had the pleasure of serving an artistically diverse and historic organization as it has grown and adapted itself to remain vibrant and relevant while still embracing its great history. It has been this balancing between complementing values which has always seemed to me to be the greatest strength of our group; our capacity to respect and promote all of our styles and approaches to art making while also providing the means to display and integrate our knowledge and talents with our desire to work within a larger, contemporary art community. To this end, we will be continuing our efforts to collaborate with other…
