I am happy to report that as we move into our summer season, we are doing so with a full itinerary of shows and events for our membership, courtesy of the good work of our Boards of Directors and Trustees. We have our collaborative show with ELAB at Silo City for “Reclaimed City”; our Summer Picnic; our Open Members Show — to be held at the Theodore Roosevelt Historic Inaugural Site — running six weeks through August and into the beginning of September; our Catalogue Exhibition and Eye Candy II art auction and social event to benefit the Artist Portrait Series Video Archive Project, both likewise to be held in September.
To address the first of these, “Reclaimed City”, I would ask any artists who are still interested in participating in this show to please contact Sara Zak and submit their work as specified in the prospectus. Our involvement in this event last year was very well received by both the exhibiting artists along with the many visitors who passed through our exhibition space. I would like to thank Sara for the wonderful work she is doing for the BSA in this, balanced with the considerable amount of work that she does for the Buffalo art community as a daily matter of course.
I should also ask for anyone interested in assisting with the Eye Candy II fundraiser to please contact Beth Pedersen, Coordinator of this event as she was for the first very successful incarnation of this art auction benefit for the Video Archive Project. I would like to thank those artists who have already pledged to donate works for this event, and hope that those who might still wish to help, by way of donation of time or money, would please likewise step forward to do so. This project is significant in its archiving of the work and life’s experiences of our treasured artists, a great part of the culture of our local art community, which will increase in importance over time as it becomes a part of our shared history and heritage as artists in Western New York.
Speaking of fundraising, I would like to thank our very active Board of Trustees for the work that they have been doing in increasing awareness and visibility of our organization as they continue to effectively promote our interests. I would also like to thank, again, the family and friends of our late Trustee, Mort Spiller, for their very generous donations allocated to exhibition awards to be given in his honor for years to come.
Carrying on my theme of membership involvement: with the large number of projects and exhibitions that we have currently in progress, it is incumbent upon me to again ask our membership for any time that they may wish to donate as a volunteer. This is, and has been, a great pleasure and privilege for me and for the many within our society who do volunteer, which I would like for the rest of our membership to enjoy! Following the summer events and shows, we have a full slate of activities set for the Fall, for which we are always happy for whatever help our members are willing to offer—not only for the logistical support which your help obviously will provide, but for the opportunity to experience and enjoy the company and wisdom of our extraordinary membership while promoting our organization!
