March 08, 2010 — George Grace, President
Bear in mind that while this was a bit of a departure from our usual spring shows of late, the Buffalo Society of Artists has held many Thumb Box exhibitions in its one hundred and nineteen years of existence. This particular show, then, might be viewed as a tradition revisited. Congratulations to those members who were accepted to this exhibition. The juror, Mr. Massier, was highly selective, accepting some twenty-five works by twenty of our members, out of slightly over fifty entries. Though this may be the smallest exhibition we’ve ever had, what it lacks in quantity, it compensates for in quality. For those whose works were declined, take heart: we have all been there before. We need not go into any discourses about the…
February, 2014 – Richard W. Christian II, President
Despite the mind numbing and cocoon inducing cold of this grueling winter, our volunteer committees and Board of Directors have, not surprisingly, been working tirelessly counter to any expectations of seasonal inertia (doubtless in an effort to stay warm!) In addition to the impressive amount and quality of independent shows from our membership, and following the end of last year’s meeting between the Boards of Directors and Trustees to discuss fundraising strategically, we have seen the very successful drop off and jurying of work for consideration for our upcoming Spring Show to be held at Buffalo Arts Studio, deftly managed by Vice President of Exhibitions, Mark Lavatelli and his Exhibition Committee (a special thank you to BAS Artistic Director Cori Wolff for opening up that…
December, 2013 – Richard W. Christian II, President
With the 2013 year drawing to a close, I feel a great pride and satisfaction in presiding over an organization that has accomplished and continues to accomplish so much, given our diverse membership and volunteer composition, along with a desire to continue to develop and offer more to our membership and the greater Buffalo arts community beyond. Instrumental to this has been the Board that I have been lucky enough to have worked with this past year. I thank all of our Directors, but wish to give special attention to the four members who have just gone off of the Board: Richard Tomasello, Norine Spurling, Catherine Tillou and Paula Sciuk. The dedicated volunteer work that they have accomplished for this organization over their time on…

September, 2011 BSA Newsletter (PDF) There is never a dull moment on the Buffalo Society of Artist’s frontline. We, the board, are still marching to the beat of 120 years of history in the making. September marks our “Eye Candy” Fundraiser, a first for BSA, which takes place on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Vern Stein’s Art Gallery in Williamsville. We are expecting a crowd and have about 85 artworks to display in a very impressive lineup. I have seen them all and there are many very beautiful small gems that will be placed for auction. You must tell your family, friends and art aficionados about an art party they should not miss. No dancing girls, but we will have…
