NORTH TONAWANDA (NY)- The public is invited to 4 learning opportunities at the Carnegie Art Center during the month of March 2020. Each class, workshop and learning opportunity will focus on the arts. Some will require pre-payments and pre-registration while others will be free and open to walk-ins. Tuesday, March 3, 6- 9PM: Open Figure Drawing for Adult Artists

Suggested donation of $5-20 to attend. Attendees can pre-register on the Carnegie’s website: www.carnegieartcenter.org or call us at 716-694-4400. Walk-ins are also welcome.

This three hour session is a self-guided figure drawing class and is intended to provide time and space for artists of our local community to share in the exploration of this traditional art practice. It is open to artists of all skill levels ages 18 +.

Participants must provide their own materials such as paper, graphite, charcoal, paints, canvas etc. The Carnegie can provide easels, drawing boards, and chairs. There will not be an instructor at this session. No oil paints will be allowed in the gallery. This is a good opportunity for artists who are looking to hone in on their figure drawing skills.

2. Saturday, March 7, 10AM-12PM: Caricature Drawing Class for Kids Ages 7 – 14

$30 for non-members. $25 for Members of the Carnegie. Attendees can pre-register on the Carnegie’s website: www.carnegieartcenter.org or call us at 716-694-4400. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.

Join us at the Carnegie Art Center for one of the most enjoyable classes for kids in our lineup – Caricature Drawing with Carlos Torres! This class will explore various ways to turn faces into fun personalities by learning how to spot and exploit facial features. After learning some tips and practicing some techniques, the students will draw their own caricature.

We ask each attendee to bring in images of someone they’d like to create a caricature of. Please bring in 1-3 images of the same person. It can be a picture of yourself, your family member, a celebrity or anyone else you’d like to draw. Please bring in a real photo- not artwork, cartoon, comic book character or an animal. The rest of the art supplies will be provided.

3. Thursday, March 19, 6:30–8PM: FREE Family Night with the NT Art Teachers

Family Night is part of the 2020 Student Spotlight exhibition hosted by the North Tonawanda School District. This exhibition will showcase the work of the North Tonawanda School District students. During Family Night, the North Tonawanda art teachers will facilitate art activities geared toward kindergarten to 6th grade students.

The opening reception of the exhibition takes place on Thursday, February 27, 6:30 – 8 PM and is on view until March 25. The exhibition AND family night are free and open to the public.

4. Wednesday, March 25, 6 – 9 PM: How To Use Your Digital Camera Workshop

Do you have a digital SLR (single lens reflex) or mirrorless camera and are slightly baffled by how to use it?

This 3-hour, hands-on workshop taught by Andrea Wenglowskyj is a terrific overview for anyone who wants to understand how to do more than use the automatic settings. You’ll learn about: aperture, shutter speed, exposure, ISO, white balance, color temperature, formatting, and different file formats. You’ll explore the functions your camera has and how to create the best possible image.

This class is for beginners: bring your camera manual! This class is especially helpful for artists/creatives who want to photograph their own work and process.
