The Roycroft Emerging Artists program is designed for rising local artists who exhibit a quality of work in keeping with the Roycroft Standards in their chosen mediums who are seeking new opportunities for professional advancement and exhibition. The program is designed to give those who are exhibiting a high quality of work the opportunity to see if a path to juried status exists and receive critique to highlight areas where specific improvement could be cultivated in order to pursue Artisan status. To become a Roycroft Renaissance Artisan, a referral from a Master Artisan is needed for this application and jury annually to ensure continued excellence and growth – the Emerging Artists Program is a solution for artists who are unfamiliar with this process in need of mentorship or portfolio critique outside of this formal process.
Four emerging artist cohorts are selected each year, and receive a partially subsidized exhibition space at the Roycroft Summer Festival in East Aurora. The program is open to Artists and artisans working in all mediums with an established body of work that shows an emerging language or cohesive style that shows attention to detail, pride in work and grasp of fit and finish practices. Artists and Artisans with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in their chosen mediums showing a high degree of skill rooted in traditional techniques are encouraged to apply. Examples of non-traditional execution of traditional skills and crafts are welcome, and artisans showing fine application of these skills are emphasized.
First priority is given to applicants that have not previously shown or exhibited their work in a major festival show setting or (solo) gallery environment, as the goal is to foster new emerging talent.
There is no cost to apply. Roycroft Emerging Artists are granted a single exhibitor space at a 50% subsidized rate and are granted Patron membership fees at no change for Membership 2024-25.
