The Buffalo Society of Artists is celebrating their 120th Anniversary this year. They announced awards at the Spring Exhibition opening reception on Friday, May 6th. First place was awarded to James Sedwick, Self Portrait with Amaryllis, Photography. Additional awards were given out to Catherine P. O’Neill, Watercolor; John Parascak, Photography; Anita Easter, Photography and Kathleen West-Hennahane, Printmaking.

The exhibition was juried by Melissa Bennett, Curator of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

The show continues through May 27th at Western New York Artists Group, One Linwood Avenue.

Award-winning works are below:


James Sedwick: First Place- Past Presidents Award: “Self-Portrait with Amaryllis,” a photograph of pigment ink on rag paper.


Catherine P. O’Neill: Second Place – the Meridian Wealth Management Award for Excellence for a transparent watercolor, entitled “Winter Sunrise”


John Parascak :Third Place- Jane Davisson Gibson Award : photograph of pigment ink on rag paper, “Tired Daisy.”


Catherine P. O’Neill: Magavern&Magavern Grimm Award for “Two Grands,” a transparent watercolor.


Anita Easter: The Socrates Educational Consultants Award for photograph, “American Landscape Mohave 1”


Kathleen West-Hennahane: Honorable Mention, from Elmwood Framing and Interiors :hand-pulled, hand colored block print, entitled “Water Lilies.”
