Lawrence Kinney Commissioned to Produce Two Public Sculptures
CONTACT: Lawrence Kinney at 833-6260

Lawrence Kinney designed and fabricated two public sculptures this summer for each of two venues.

The first sculpture, funded by a grant from the KaBOOM! Play Everywhere Challenge supported by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, was recently unveiled at the BRRAlliance Community Garden, at the corner of Farmer and Guernsey streets in Black Rock. The life-size, grinning pig sculpture reflects a portion of the history of the Black Rock neighborhood, where a livestock path leading from the village to nearby farmlands once stood. The 170 lb. hand-laid cement sculpture, which the community has since titled, "Brockie" through a pig-naming contest, greets visitors at the corner of the garden.

The town of Kenmore approved the installation of a larger-than-life sculpture of a bison character, also designed and sculpted by Kinney, which will be installed on Delaware Avenue, in front of King Condrell's Candy & Ice Cream the first week in September. The seven foot sculpture, which depicts a bison/boy character wearing bicycle pants and a t-shirt sitting on a bench eating an ice cream cone, invites passersby to stop for a photograph.
