Friends and Fellow BSA Members, It has been a privilege to serve you in the role of president this past year. I could not have done so without the committed support of a talented and tenacious group of Board Members as well as all the other volunteers who served in various capacities to make this year a success. Along with Spring comes the promise of growth and the opportunity to develop creative potential. This has certainly been amply realized in our very successful Spring Show currently on view at Buffalo Arts Studio. The work displayed in this exhibition demonstrates, yet again, the great strength in the diversity that the Buffalo Society of Artists welcomes and promotes to art lovers in Western New York and beyond. As 2017 comes to an end, a review of our many accomplishments seems fitting. So many things have happened that it is—happily—hard to keep up. Important changes began with the notification of our not-for-profit status. This announcement launched a great deal of exciting ideas and activities. The many educational events for members and the general public were among the most apparent changes. We saw workshops and artists talks associated with exhibitions or in collaboration with Arts Services Initiative and ELAB. The Video Archive Project provided insight into several exceptional artists. A new book project will record the history of BSA and our role in Buffalo’s history. Exhibitions continued with a renewed energy. I am honored to have been elected the 77th president of Buffalo Society of Artists, an organization composed of many creative and artistic individuals.
