A Gouache of Your Own

Linda Toomey

Sunday, February 8, 2015

2:00-5:00 pm, $36 members/$46 not-yet members

Opaque watercolor techniques will be demonstrated with the use of gouache, followed by experimenting with gouache while creating a small landscape.

Linda Toomey is interested in small gouache landscapes, her inspiration stemming from the play of light on water, especially coastal and river marshes. She hopes to take the viewer to a natural world of quiet solitude, contemplation and peacefulness. Toomey earned her Bachelor of Science in Art Education and her Master of Science in Art Education at State University of New York College at Buffalo. In 2014 she exhibited at the Buffalo Society of Artists and had a solo exhibition at Breakwater Gallery in Cape Vincent, NY. Toomey has her work in public and private collections; Children's Hospital, Roswell Park, and in Kanazawa, Japan where her paintings were gifts from Mayor Brown and the Albright-Knox art gallery to dignitaries from Buffalo's sister city.
"I'm inspired by water. I incorporate water in most of my paintings, but usually the peaceful, placid waters and reflections of river and coastal marshes. Niagara Falls provides a whole new approach and challenge to this artist. The powerful flow, the majesty and the mist are truly inspiring to me. I painted Niagara Falls for the first time in a graduate painting class over forty years ago. I've since done over twenty paintings and the "Falls" still remain a challenge and inspiration." -Linda Toomey
